Work is not a Curse. Work is a gift.

Before the Fall of man in the Garden, God gave Adam the assignment of tending the Garden — the first job on earth (Genesis 2:15).

Think about it, one man managing hectares of land, making sure every plant was thriving, every animal was happy, and nothing went wrong. That was not all; he had to name everything—from lions to ladybirds—without breaking a sweat, or maybe he did🤷.

As if these were not enough, Adam couldn’t just name them on a whim. Nope, every name had to align with God’s grand vision and thoughts! (pressure ti wa o)! Makes me wonder—how did he excel at all of this without an Excel sheet? (can never be me😬)

The Answer to this question is simple—hard work and diligence.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. — Colossians 3:23–24 (NKJV)

Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; — Romans 12:11 (NKJV)

He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer. — Proverbs 18:9(NKJV)

Diligence means working with steady, careful, and painstaking effort. It connotes industry, conscientiousness, determination, and perseverance. Diligence is more than hard work—it reflects a heart fully committed to God’s purpose. Ultimately, diligence is an act of worship. It is the practical outworking of faith, demonstrating love for God and others through industriousness and care.

On the other hand, slothfulness, or spiritual apathy, is often linked to the absence of purpose or commitment in one’s walk with God. It is contrary to the life of faith, which requires active engagement, discipline, and a willingness to labour for the glory of God. Slothfulness denotes an attitude of apathy that should have no place at all in the life of a Christian.

Looking through all those written about in the Scriptures as examples unto us, slothfulness was an alien attribute to them.

Most times, people want to get to the big stage before they display excellence or diligence, but I see Diligence like exercising or hitting the gym—if you haven’t proven mastery in handling small weights or regiments, you can’t all of a sudden lift heavy weights—you no go fit run am.

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. — Luke 16:10 (NKJV)

I know that the context is different, but the principle is still intact. When a believer does his job right and with an awesome attitude, it is a testimony to the name of Jesus

What brings joy to Jesus’ heart?

A believer who excels and serves with diligence while consistently demonstrating fervour, commitment, and enthusiasm. When we embody these qualities, we become a source of delight to our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Our salvation is a gift of God’s grace, and nothing we do can buy us a special standing with Him. That said, what we do, how we serve God, and the testimony that our lives demonstrate to the world is a part of our reasonable service unto God.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)

But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have work.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. — James 2:18 (NKJV)

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering — Romans 12:1 (MSG)

The diligence we are talking about here is all-encompassing—it impacts everything we do as Believers.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. — Ecclesiastes 9:10 (KJV)

The keyword is WHATSOEVER, nothing is excused from the list for a believer—from minute to mighty.

Daily Chores and Routines.

Family and Relationships.

Workplace Excellence.

Service in your Local Assembly.

Faith Driven responsibilities.

Personal Effectiveness.

A lot more can be said, but I believe that my message has been passed, so I won’t belabour the matter.

This week let us all (you and I) commit to diligence because all we do as believers is worship to our God.

Have a Blessed Week!

Remember you are the FLOW.
